❓ How accurate is the transcription?

Subtitle It uses iOS's built-in Speech Recognition framework, which offers industry-leading accuracy. Accuracy depends on:

• Audio quality and background noise
• Speaker clarity and accent
• Language and dialect selected
• Device model (newer devices have better Neural Engine performance)

For enhanced accuracy, you can enable cloud transcription services (OpenAI or AssemblyAI) in Settings → Remote Transcription.

❓ Does the app work offline?

Yes! The default transcription mode works completely offline using on-device processing. No internet connection required.

Optional cloud transcription features require an internet connection, but these are disabled by default.

❓ How do I improve transcription quality?

Follow these tips for best results:

1. Use the Microphone Test feature (Settings → Audio & Performance → Test Microphone)
2. Enable noise reduction in Audio Settings
3. Speak clearly at a moderate pace
4. Minimize background noise when possible
5. Hold your iPhone 6-12 inches from your mouth
6. Select the correct language in Settings → Language and Translation

❓ Can I export my transcriptions?

Yes! Subtitle It supports multiple export formats:

• Plain text (.txt)
• Share directly to other apps
• Copy to clipboard

To export, tap the share button while viewing a transcription.

❓ Which languages are supported?

Subtitle It supports all languages available in iOS Speech Recognition, including:

• English (US, UK, Australian, Indian, and more variants)
• Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese
• Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Japanese, Korean
• Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Russian
• Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Dutch
• And many more...

Change your language in Settings → Language and Translation → Source Language.

❓ How does translation work?

On iOS 18 and later, Subtitle It can translate transcriptions in real-time using Apple's on-device Translation framework:

• Works completely offline after downloading language packs
• No cloud services or data transmission
• Configure in Settings → Language and Translation
• Choose to show original text, translation, or both

❓ How much battery does the app use?

Battery usage depends on your settings:

• Local Mode: Moderate battery use (on-device processing)
• Server Only: Lower battery use (cloud processing)
• AI Enhanced: Higher battery use (both local and cloud)

Use the Microphone Test feature to see battery impact estimates for your settings.

❓ Is my data private?

Yes! Privacy is our top priority:

• All transcription happens on your device by default
• No data is transmitted to our servers (we don't have any)
• Cloud features are optional and require your explicit opt-in
• You manage your own API keys for cloud services

❓ What are the cloud transcription options?

Subtitle It supports optional cloud transcription for enhanced accuracy:

• OpenAI Whisper: High-accuracy transcription with multilingual support
• AssemblyAI: Real-time streaming transcription with advanced features

These features require:

• Your own API key from the provider
• Internet connection
• Explicit opt-in in Settings → Remote Transcription

Troubleshooting

🔧 No Audio Detection

If the app isn't detecting audio:

1. Check that microphone permission is granted:
   iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Subtitle It (ON)
2. Remove any phone case that might block the microphone
3. Clean the microphone opening carefully
4. Test with the Microphone Test feature
5. Try restarting the app
6. Restart your iPhone if the issue persists

🔧 Poor Transcription Accuracy

To improve accuracy:

1. Verify the correct language is selected
2. Enable noise reduction (Settings → Audio & Performance)
3. Speak more clearly and slowly
4. Reduce background noise
5. Consider using cloud transcription for difficult audio
6. Test different recording distances

🔧 App Crashes or Freezes

If you experience crashes:

1. Make sure you're running the latest version of the app
2. Update to the latest iOS version
3. Force quit and restart the app
4. Free up device storage (at least 1GB recommended)
5. Disable audio enhancements temporarily
6. Contact support if the issue persists

🔧 Cloud Transcription Not Working

If cloud features aren't working:

1. Verify your API key is correctly entered
2. Check your internet connection
3. Ensure you have API credits with your provider
4. Try toggling cloud transcription off and on
5. Check provider status pages for outages

🔧 Translation Not Available

If translation features are missing:

1. Verify you're running iOS 18.0 or later
2. Download language packs: iOS Settings → General → Language & Region → Translation Languages
3. Restart the app after downloading language packs
